WAPA Grows & Unveils Web Zine

A warm welcome to all our new subscribers, not least to those who have come from the now-demised Freelance Writing 45-second Newsletter (hosted by WZ.com)...

We are at an exciting point in the ever-changing life of Writers-and-Publishers.com. A number of projects are reaching conclusions (at last!) and - more immediately - the WAPA Ezine is redefining itself so that it will be a better read and resource for you all!

Perhaps the biggest change is that there now exists a web-based version of the WAPA newsletter. You're reading it, so you'd know ;)

Due to our recent growth and these changes, I think it's appropriate to review the purpose and content of the WAPA Ezine.

The Writers and Publishers Alert (WAPA) Ezine exists to serve writers and publishers, and to help them market their ebooks, books, web sites, articles, services, et. al.

The focus is on using the Internet to do that. The tagline for Writers-and-Publishers.com really sums it up nicely:

"Harnessing the power of the Internet to turn writers into profitable publishers..."

Something I try to do with the content of the WAPA is to include a subscriber's web / email link in every issue. I want to see *your* name in the WAPA! Just send in a contribution and if I use it I'll mention your name and web/email link.

Some issues of the WAPA will usually have a strong theme such as fiction writing, though most will have a broad appeal. This issue looks a little at writing for children. The featured article will guide the theme of the issue.

Now, let's back up a little. Last issue was the WAPA's anniversary (awww...) and we had a free gift for everybody. If you missed it then here it is again:

Name:      TrafficMagic ebook
Author:     Michael Southon
Subject:   Articles and using them to your advantage.
Includes:  3 interviews by such notables as Shelley Lowrey.

Click here to download (PCs only - sorry MAC users (size: 0.55 Mb))

Enjoy!

Now, let's get on with this Friday's offering...

To Your Online Writing Success!

Darren Andrews, Editor.

FEATURED ARTICLE

How to Write a Children's Book in 30 Days or Less

by Caterina Christakos

The first time I attempted to write a children's book it took me three months and several years of promising myself I would do it "one day." In that time I managed to wash the dog a million times, rearrange my closet, get my apartment so clean that they should have done a commercial about it and procrastinate in ways that gave the word a new name.

When I actually sat down to write the book it took me two days and that was with editing. That is the longest that it has taken me to write a children's book since then and in reality, unless you are writing an epic it will not take you more than that period of time to write yours either, after you read this book.

Why, then, the title "How to Write a Children's book in 30 days or less"?

So that you will have time to wash the dog, clean the closets and get Mr. Clean to personally come in and interview you, in addition to writing a children's book that you will treasure forever...

WORDCRAFT

(+) Writers' Wisdom

"Don't think about the plot of the novel; think about specific situations. Aim at making pictures, not notes."

~ John Braine.

(+) Writing Tip

Not "Each family member has their own car." but "Each family member has his or her own car." or "All family members have their own cars."

The pronouns everybody, anybody, nobody, each, either etc. are singular, so they take a singular verb and they must agree in number with their antecedent (the thing they refer to).

Everybody has left the hall.
Nobody is home.
Each of the girls writes well.

(+) 'Different' Christmas Gift Ideas ;)

If you want to buy your family and friends something 'different' this Christmas then consider the following gifts I've selected especially for WAPA readers:

1. The Well-Fed Writer: Financial Self-Sufficiency As a Freelance Writer in Six Months or Less
cover Bold title. Well-loved book. Even if you don't own a copy you've no doubt heard of it. Well, why not get a copy now or buy one for a fellow writer? Click on the image to learn more.

2. Jewelry

Yes, I know - everyone offers you this as a gift idea, and I suppose I could direct you to a site such as this one. You can go there if you want, and get products direct from Bangkok (the source), but how's the following for a great (if somewhat peculiar) gift...?

Now that is cool!

3. A More Perfect Union: America Becomes A Nation

This award-winning movie (video and DVD format) is an account of the Constitutional Convention of 1786 which saw the birth of a free nation and government. It's not only informative, it's engaging and thoroughly enjoyable. Excellent acting and filming too.

It's good to be reminded of the inception of that freedom enjoyed today - especially when it is being threatened. And writers should be aware of perhaps the greatest freedom document ever written! Click below to read more...

If you've got any more slightly out-of-the-ordinary Christmas gift ideas then let me know for the next issue!
