ATTENTION: The following information is only provisional and is subject to change until our web site is established in July (or later) 2004. However, if we agree to use your work, there will be a contract stating the exact terms of the agreement.

Overview

A new traditional print publishing company based in the UK is opening its doors. We will be distributing nationally at the outset and internationally by 2004/2005. Published material will include hardback books, softback books, booklets, calendars, greeting cards, postcards, prints, posters, stationery etc. We will consider all types of tasteful writing and visual media, whether fiction or non-fiction, aimed at adults or children.

We are currently looking to build up our base of writers, illustrators, graphic designers, photographers, proof-readers, copy editors, researchers and indexers. This is a great opportunity for talented individuals to get in - whether you're established or not - and get your work published internationally! We will also consider distributing your already-published works for you.

Writers

Before reading the information below you might want to understand the difference between offline and online publishing opportunities and, also, your rights. We'd encourage you to read THIS first.

Manuscripts must be printed out by the author and sent by regular mail (see end of this page for mailing address), although exception will be made for manuscripts of 20 pages or less (booklets, cards, poetry, young children's books etc.) which can be emailed direct as an attachment in Word, text, or PDF. Please note that:

Manuscripts (including those sent electronically) must be in double-spaced format
You must include a cover letter with your contact details and a brief description of the submitted manuscript (intended age of audience, brief synopsis, genre, unique elements that make your work different)
Manuscripts cannot be returned
We do not want samples (unless we request such). If you feel you have great samples that we need to see then see next point below.
If you write (or have written) articles, essays, samples etc. then please do not send them in but provide us with a portfolio describing the niche(s) within which you work. You may include in this a link to a page of your writing or an email address where we can request the same.

If we agree to publish your manuscript then...

We require exclusive rights to your work (this includes electronic rights) - this means we will be the sole publisher (in print and electronically) of your work.
All costs are borne by us (illustrations, proof-reading, copy editing, research, indexing, printing etc.).
There is no set-up fee or any other cost for the author
Book authors will be paid generous royalties.
If a current publisher of your work has anything less than International exclusive rights we will consider publishing your work in other countries but reserve the right to reduce royalties in such cases
You must not so much as show your manuscript to any other publisher once we have agreed to publish it (full terms and conditions of this contract will be made known to you before mutual agreement of course!); this includes the removal of any electronic sources of the manuscript that may exist
We can also distribute your books published by other publishers for a commission (of the book value regardless of sales)
Exact terms will be set forth in a written contract.

Illustrators, Graphic Designers/Artists, and Photographers

Please kindly send your samples and portfolio to the address at the bottom of this page. You may send either a CD or disk. Images should be in good quality low resolution (JPG format is fine) for review. You may send in physical material but we cannot return it.

You can email the same direct if you (a) zip it into one file and (b) make sure the unzipped contents do not exceed 1.2 Megabytes - it must easily fit on a disk our side once unzipped! Single-file displays are best, for example: placing a variety or collage of your work in a single pdf document (but make sure the quality is still review-standard). We repeat: Do not send multiple files unless zipped and no larger than 1.2 Megs unzipped.

Please only send references to web-site portfolios, etc. when including them in a resumé.

If we are interested in your work we evaluate your work and make you an offer. Copies of work sent as email attachments are unsuitable for evaluation. Professional photographic copies (prints or transparencies only), scans at a minimum input resolution of 300 dpi on CD, or originals only please.

Copy editors, Proof-readers, Researchers, Indexers

Please send in your resumé by email and we'll contact you if and when we need you. We will have a lot of diverse work so there's a good chance you'll be used! Please do include samples of previous work and references - and put down some quotes for your fee.

To begin with we will only be paying flat fees, not hourly fees.

We are not seeking employees at present but will be in the future, so working with us now under contract, as and when needed, may grow into something more profitable once we are established.
